Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at restoring hair to areas of the scalp that are bald or have thinning hair. This procedure involves transferring hair follicles from a donor site (usually the back or sides of the head) to the balding or thinning areas.

Technique and Procedure

There are two primary techniques for hair transplantation: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In FUT, a strip of scalp is removed from the donor site, and individual hair follicles are harvested from this strip and transplanted. In FUE, individual hair follicles are directly extracted from the donor area and transplanted to the recipient site. Both techniques involve creating tiny incisions in the recipient area where the follicles are implanted.

Recovery and Post-Operative Care

Recovery from a hair transplant typically involves mild discomfort, swelling, and redness in both the donor and recipient areas. Patients are advised to follow their surgeon's post-operative care instructions, which may include gentle hair washing, avoiding strenuous activities, and attending follow-up appointments. Initial hair shedding is normal, with new hair growth becoming noticeable within a few months.

Results and Expectations

The results of a hair transplant can significantly improve hair density and the appearance of the hairline. While some initial results are visible within a few months, full results may take up to a year as the transplanted hair grows and thickens. The success of the procedure depends on factors such as the quality of the donor hair and the patient's adherence to post-operative care.
